between Burgos and Leon

Hi! I'm hoping to get some help with a logistical question. I am currently in Pamplona and have been walking since SJPP. My original plan was to walk until Burgos as I have to then take a train to Madrid and catch a flight home on June 10. (I hope all is well with the flight as the French strike caused the first leg to be cancelled!)
I was under the impression that I needed to be in a major city (like Burgos) to catch a train or bus back to Madrid, and I don't have enough days to walk to Leon. (I see on Brierly's map of Sahagun there is mention of RENFE tracks but I don't know if it's a stop and I can't figure out the RENFE site from my phone.)
I'd really love to walk some of the Meseta if possible! I still have 12 days available to walk.
Anybody know of buses/trains to Madrid between Burgos and Leon?

Thank you for your response! Perhaps it's because I'm underslept due to all the snoring in the albergue but are you saying you made it from Pamplona to Leon in 10 days?

That can't be right. It took me 16 days to walk from Pamplona to León, and I averaged 25 km per day. I walked from Burgos to León in 7 days, averaging 26.3 km per day.

Thanks for giving me a sense of the distance. Perhaps he is saying he took a train to Leon from Sahagun and then a train from Leon to Madrid...?

Pamplona to Leon in 16 days is doable and with time each day to smell roses or whatever takes your fancy.

I took the train from Sahagun to Madrid last December. There are several trains a day. I believe that one change is necessary.

Fromista is one possibility, but there will be more trains from Sahagun.

Hi,

I’m just home in the UK after walking the first half of the Camino and finishing in Sahagun. I loved the Meseta.

Sahagun has quite a big train station with trains in all directions. We caught a train to Bilbao which was a 4 hr journey. I bought the tickets from the Renfe office in Burgos but you can probably buy them at the station. The ticket office seemed to close around 2 pm. I didn’t think the train would turn up, but it did and was very comfy and efficient.

You can get a beautiful certificate for walking half the Camino at the iglesia Senora la Peregrina in Sahagun

We did Pamplona to Leon in 14 days. Still had time to stop and check out the sights. we averaged +-30km a day and usually 6 hours walking. All depends on how fast you are and how far you can go

I returned on 6/5. Train from Sahagun to Palencia, then easy change for a train to Madrid. In Sahagun you can get a certificate to show you’ve done half the Camino. From monastery Peregrino. Opens at 1000. Costs around 5 Euros Good luck xxx Joanna
