Bilbao Starts Tour de France 2023

Time of past OR future Camino
April-May 2023
Just completed my first day (first Camino) on Norte - 16.5 miles (26.5 km for the metric challenged, including me, I had to do the conversion) yay!), learned that TdF starts in Bilbao July 1, 2023 and Vitoria-Gasteiz and San Sebastián July 2. Just a heads up for those thinking of that time frame, didn’t see any other posts on this (did I search incorrectly?), not sure how it will impact, but if you’re planning during this period I imagine the area may be more crowded than usual.

We are coming through Bayonne to coincide with the finish of stage 3 on 3rd July. So excited to witness this great event. Had no trouble getting accommodation there but it‘s not on a major Camino route. We love watching the race from Australia, especially for the stunning scenery and are pinching ourselves that the planets have aligned and we get to see these great athletes in action. It does mean that we hit Pamplona for the running of the bulls, but we’ve worked that out.

Stick around Bayonne on the morning of the 4th, they do a huge television event every morning of the Tour called Ville Depart
