Black dog on route between Molineasca and Ponferrada

I'm just wondering if anyone else had an encounter with a small black dog on the walk out of Molineasca?

I was walking past a yard when I heard a dog barking a few meters away, then felt something nip at my calf. Turned and there was a horrible mangy black dog at my leg, with open wounds on it's back.

My boyfriend chased it away, if he hadn't it would have attacked me. Thankfully it didn't break the skin when it nipped my leg.

I was so shocked by the way it had sneaked up on me, I wouldn't have noticed it right at my leg only for that other dog barking! And I love dogs, would never be fearful of them, but that experience shock me! Very lucky I wasn't on my own.

Anyone else meet that little angry dog??

I'm wondering now if I should have reported it...

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I saw a young man get bit by a dog last July while walking the Camino. He was wearing shorts and it bit him on the calf and did break the skin. Not a a really damaging bite, but there were puncture wounds. He did have it treated. The young man was from Spain, and I saw him for several days along the Camino, but he did not make mention of having reported the bite. Not sure who or where you would report it to in rural Spain.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I've walked that route about 7 times and never have encountered the dog.
If you stop and pick up a rock, the dogs will run.
They know what that means.

Not sure who you'd "report" such a thing to…??

Hope things get better for you :)

I got bit on the San Salvador this May. The skin was broken. I now have two scars on my calf near my ankle. Someone else on the forum also posted that that dog had bit her husband.

@tararrr you seem to be having a tough time. Only two posts on the forum, one to say you've been projectile vomiting, the other that you were attacked by a dog. I do hope things improve for you and you are able to enjoy the rest of the walk.

Ahh - now, had she projectile vomited over the black dog - timing is everything! :):)

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Yes, I remember @Al the optimist when you were bitten, and that another pilgrim also posted about the same dog in the same place. Getting bitten is really a very scary and unpleasant experience. Let alone the nasty side effects of dog bites. A hostile dog is understandable on less travelled routes - I remember Rebekah Scott being bitten 14 years ago when she was trying to find the high route to O'Cebreiro - but it is surprising today on the Frances. The dogs are almost invariably confined and there so many walkers most dogs don't even raise an eyebrow.

I initially thought this was a post about someone being depressed on the Camino when I saw the title:)

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
