Bolsena to Viterbo

Got a late start from Bolsena and found the weather to be very cloudy with high humidity.
Within the first 6 miles the wind speed picked up tremendously and it began pouring rain.
Having not used my poncho in a while I was forced to take shelter under some trees and dig it out of the bottom of my pack.
I then restarted on the now muddy dirt trail and within 2 miles the wind speeds again increased and it began to thunder and lightening for a short period.
Once that subsided it began to hail (See photo), which quickly evaporated due to the high humidity.
Needless to say the weather gods threw everything they had at me today, so I topped off my baked salmon dinner with an Aperol spritz and enjoyed the sunset over Viterbo.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Yikes...the full weather package today Bob; lightning⚡⛈️ is a scary proposition when walking, especially out in the open.

I have warm & fuzzy memories of Viterbo. While wandering the Old Town, I ran into a pelegrina I'd met on the trail the day before. Along with another solo female VF'er (they were both short-haulers) we 3 had a wonderful dinner together. There was much hilarity 🍷🥂🍹throughout & for some unknown/mysterious reason, headaches, sensitivity to noise & light & a late, slow start the next morning!! 🤪🥹😇

Kaz, you are a hoot!🦉😂
I have felt that way "once or twice" myself over the years.🙃
'Once or twice' Chrissy? 🤥 🤭 Perhaps you're experiencing some of my aforementioned fuzziness... 😆
I am happy to report the pelegrina I met initially (Steffi from Germany) is a very dear friend to this day. 🤗

What about you @Bob from L.A. ! ?...any 'next morning' updates or were you more disciplined & stopped at one Aperol...? 🥴

G’day, I am an Aussie walking from London via Canterbury and the VF to Rome. After completing the Lon-Cant section (Chaucers’ Pilgrims Way) I am now in Licques at the end of Day 4 on the VF...
Due to length restraints, I’ve had to to split the story into two posts. I find it no longer ‘flows’. I suggest reading Part 1 again, link just below, before reading Part 2. Regards Gerard Part 1...
