Time of past OR future Camino
I don't know yet!
Hi! I'm looking for Camino book recommendations. My boyfriend hiked the Camino and was really transformed by the experience. I'd like to get him a thoughtful Camino book for Christmas. Ideally, it's got a Catholic spin. We're both Catholic, and this experience was very formative for his faith. Any suggestions on Camino books? Or books about Saint James! Thanks :)

This thread is being moved to the Books about the Camino section of the forum. If you click on the link in the previous sentence, you will see all the threads. The first thread is an excellent bibliography compiled by David Tallan, and there are many other threads with interesting suggestions.

I agree with the recommendations by Rebekah. Both are powerful and thoughtful books which go beyond the mundane memoirs that are so common.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

A Furnace Full of God by Rebekah Scott

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Once your boyfriend has read one or two thoughtful books, he might (only might) fancy something slightly different. If so, he might (only might) appreciate my effort. I think it’s quite amusing but there again I am biased. For better or worse, this link will give you an insight www.caminodesantiagobeersontheway.com

For a funny, sometimes irreverential book with brief 2 to 3 page chapters, the kind of book you can read while commuting to work, you could try mine. I had a lot of fun writing it. It is more a series of anecdotes (some quite astonishing but all true) with photos, some bits of history you have probably not yet heard about, fascinating characters met along the way... The title: "The Camino is not just for Walking - Pilgrims, Hosts and Ghosts along the Way." Buen Camino

"Walk in a Relaxed Manner," by Sister Joyce Rupp.
"The Great Westward Walk," by Antxon Gonzalez Gabarain
Not to mention your Furnace Full of God, Rebekah, which I fully enjoyed twice! I also loved Walk in a Relaxed Manner. Although it was written a long, long time ago, it still resonates. Actually, I think it resonates even more.

The Rupp and Codd recommendations above would be my top choices for a memoir that focuses on the Catholic faithful experience. There are other excellent memoirs, but those would be my top picks (of the one's I've read) from that particular viewpoint.

In terms of Camino-related books, I'm always fond of recommending Gitlitz and Davidson's The Pilgrimage Road to Santiago: The Complete Cultural Handbook. More cultural than religious, it remains the best guide to what one sees along the Camino Frances.

I like "Finding Santiago" by Don Thomas.
For my review you can look at my previous thread in the book section.
It is called "4 Camino related Books"
It as a very good book with each chapter a snippet of a pilgrim he met and interacted with along the way.
