My friends are starting in pamplona on may 20th. I am considering flying into paris on 16th taking train to st jean and then starting the hike from st jean to pamplona on 18th. If I am running late and will not make it pamplona to meet my friends on the night of the 21st if there a bus or taxi system I could use either from Roncesvalles or Larrasoana??? I can not find any info on this..

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Maggiejoyce,

For taxi service from Roncevalles you might try Express Bourcicault. Here is a link to their English web page. http://www.expressbourricot.com/en.html.

Other transport services are listed on the official web page for Roncevalles at this link http://www.roncesvalles.es/directorio/index.asp?id=listado&cat=trans&lg=spa

Happy planning and Buen Camino,

Margaret

Depending on whether you are going to add a night by stopping at Orisson to cross the Pyrenees via the Route de Napoleon, or do SJPdP to Roncevalles in one day, either via this route or Valcarlos and the valley road, you should be able to make Pamplona straightforwardly in the 4 days to the evening of 21st.

However, would definitely recommend that you consider Zubiri as stopping point rather than Larrasoana. Those that proceeded extra 6k ahead of us to Larrasoana were very disappointed with accommodation on offer and Zubiri, where Pension Zaldiki is good value, offers better choice. Beyond Larrasoana the route parallels the main Pamplona road if you decide you need to jump on public transport or call a taxi en route.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

As Merrell notes Zubiri offers a good choice of places to stay plus being on the bus route.
I often stay at the pleasant private Albergue El Palo de Avellano which is on the main road next to the church. You can have dinner there also. http://caminodesantiago.consumer.es./albergue-el-palo-de-avellano.

Doubt you will find yourself needing to travel alone over the top from Orisson after meeting lots of other people at the fixed dinner time, but irrespective of this you should be confident of being able to walk safely as a solo female traveller, there are lots of you!

Remember too, if you want to stay at Orisson it is essential you pre-book and reservations can be made via the albergue's website.
