Buying poles or staff in Irun/San Sebastian?

I'm arriving to Irun in the afternoon on the 12th of May. Will be in San Sebastian on the 13th. Would like to walk the Camino once again with a wooden staff like they sell in the pilgrim store in SJPdP. Normal cheap pair of walking poles would also do. Will anyways donate them once finished with the Camino.

The Decathlon in Irun seems way off on the other side of the city. Intersport Gonzalez seems to be near the albergue in Irun from where I think I can get poles. Not sure about the prices there. Also, noticed a Decathlon in San Sebastian that will be on route to my hostel. I assume this is the place where to get the cheapest poles? What would you recommend?

Any ideas on where to get a staff other than finding some random piece of wood in the mountains on day 1?

Decathlon is by far the cheapest choice if you can get to it. We ended up buying poles out of a sport shop (cant remember the name) but its on the left, on the way into town from the albergue. Cost us 65 euros :eek:and we donated them at the Pilgrim House in SDC on arrival.

If you are intending going over the mountain on day 1 instead of around it I would definitely recommend poles as its a very hard first day and its also a very tough first week.

Good luck, enjoy.

Here is the location of a Decathlon in San Sebastian:
There are also some other local outdoor stores in central historico if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the tips!

Will check out Intersport and Leire sport which are super close to the albergue in Irun. If prices seem too high then will just get them in San Sebastian Decathlon store.
