Camino Pilgrim Statues - Monumento ao Peregrino

As the 2019 Camino season is starting to get busier I thought I would do this as a bit of awareness in case it helps. As individuals, films affect us in different ways. There was a scene in The Way where they are seen walking through a field to the pilgrim statues just outside Santiago. I have to confess I became a bit fascinated with those statues and promised myself that when I did my Camino I would see those statues in person and try and replicate that moment.

I was very surprised at how few people were there, and of those who were, most appeared to be tourists rather than pilgrims as they were not carrying backpacks. In some ways it was good as it made the moment more peaceful for me (though no one to hold my camera and take my picture with the statues!). Part of me though wanted others to share that experience. I wondered whether the lack of people was the time I arrived (just after 1pm), they did not feel like walking that extra bit or was it a lack of awareness. In case it was the latter I thought I would post this on the forum. To help give a feel of where the statues are, I have attached a picture as between the two statues you can see Monte do Gozo. They are not as far apart as perhaps the picture indicates. If you go to Google maps and search for Monte do Gozo, then zoom in and go south you will hopefully see where they are.

I have also found some other pictures relating to the statues and in some there is what appears to be a small lake near them but was not there on my Camino. I was not sure whether that was because it is no longer there or had just dried out that summer.

Thank you for your tribute video. So nice. I went there a couple of times at the end of caminoes, I find it a very spiritual and impressing place.
