Camino Tattoos

Time of past OR future Camino
Future
I have never been a tattoo person, thinking there was nothing I could commit to for my entire life. BUT… I loved other people’s tattoos and the stories behind them.

I finally got a meaningful tattoo 3 years ago - and it was going to be my only one. Little did I know I would end up getting another one after finishing my camino… and then, there were two! I designed it myself and it is as meaningful as the first. I guess that’s the recipe for my personal tattoo commitment - it has to speak to me LOUD.

Both of my tattoos have disguised stories within that are not obvious to the outside world - and that’s why I like them (they are for me to know)…

Since camino community feels like one big family, I would like to share mine with you. I would also like to see yours and hear what inspired you to get one.

So… attached is a photo of my both inner wrists showing both tattoos. The obvious one is the camino one.

And here is an inspiration for it: For various reasons I wasn’t able to walk the full Camino, so the outline of the trail shows the segment I hiked ending with the “shell” as final destination Santiago. Empty dots show beginning and end. Filled dots pinpoint important experiences (to me) along the way. In the future, I plan to go back and finish the camino - at that time, if meaningful, I can extend the trail up my arm and mark new experiences along the route. My tattoo is a sort of unfinished journey (for now), but already meaningful enough to not want to be forgotten.

Buen Camino…
