I will be walking in 2014 with a friend unable to carry a rucsack due to a shoulder injury. Can anyone please recommend a bag carrier company please? We wish to stay in hostels and book day-to-day, depending on how far we manage to walk each day.
Many thanks

The two times I used transport service, was arranged through my lodging hosts. They knew the services for that particular area, and handled the French conversation of the phone call as well. Since spoken accents in the south of France can be a real challenge, this worked well.

Hi Kitsambler,

getting physio for a painful shoulder issue at the moment so there is a strong possibility I may have to used the baggage transfer service when I walk the Le Puy Route in April/May.... What did you use to hold your 'stuff' being transported? Did you carry an extra bag? When I was walking the Camino Frances, my American friends used the service alot and got away with a black bin bag! Any advice welcome as I'd prefer not to have to bring a spare bag in case my shoulder is very painful and need to avail of the service.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Irishgurrrl

Both times that I have walked part of the Le Puy route, my friend used Transports Claudine and it was organised on a daily base by the gite owner. She used a strong black bin bag and an envelope with the transport money attached to the bag. Definitely not necessary for an extra bag. Every day when we arrived at the gite, the bag was waiting for her. Very trustworthy company. Enjoy, you are going to walk a beautiful route. Dolfina

Actually, the bags I saw being transported on the Le Puy route in 2010-2011 had no covers at all. They were zipped up tight and all the straps were snugged; occasionally someone had put their rain cover on. But no bin-bags. I carry a collapsible 2-ounce daypack from Sea to Summit, as my airplane carryon/grocery sack/evening purse etc, and one time I sent ahead about 5 pounds of surplus using that bag. It was fine. (An extra-long day and extra-hot weather, but I didn't feel the need to give up my main bag.)
