Well, we have successfully passed through security in Toronto, with our collapsible Black Diamond poles in our Osprey Talon 33 backpacks as carry on luggage. These are the poles that fold to about 12 or 13 inches long. Two of us went through the same line up and no questions were asked.

We are now waiting for flights to Heathrow and Madrid!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

What city in Canada and airline, CClearly? I'm flying Airtransit from Montreal and have been assuming I can't carry my pacer poles on board in my pack.

Good luck in getting all the way to your destination with your poles. I would love to do that, but have always felt that I might get through the first check-point, only to be refused at the next - and then lose my poles. I'l be watching your posts to see that you get through. Buen Camino!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
We checked our wooden walking staves from Madrid back to Syracuse NY, as a medical devices. They did get lost between NYC (JFK) and Syracuse, but the airline delivered them to our house a few days later.

We will be flying out of Toronto on April 21 this year. My son wants to bring his walking staff, I am leaning towards my collapsable ones. Thoughts?

We flew out of Toronto. It really doesn't matter which airline because the security screening us done for all airlines together.

I was a bit worried about Heathrow because we had go through security again, on a tight connection, but no problem with the poles!

We are now in Merida, planning to take tomorrow as a rest day.

Yes that's correct, but I always look at my airline's 'Baggage' section to se what and what can not go in the cabin….I'm very envious Please keep in touch.

We have carried our pacer poles in our packs out of Canada through many airports without issue so far if this makes you feel any better. They have never even looked at them...we too were surprised, but delighted.
