Such great memories! I enjoyed many of the same experiences thanks to your brilliant posts and recommendations as I was following on around 3 weeks behind you. After reaching Santiago on 27/10 and having an extra day to catch up on laundry etc, I decided to cut short my stay, as I planned to return to Portugal to walk the reverse coastal route from the border and there were rumblings that the border was about to close. I returned to Valenca, then walked for another 3 days, along the beautiful coastal route but by now it was very lonely - not a single other Pilgrim to be found and albergue/hostel rooms to myself each night. I felt very much like last man (well, woman) standing so decided to give up at that point. (Plus, the weather had taken a turn for the worse with torrential rain). I managed to link up with Grace, (who I'd connected with via your threads), and together we made our way back to Lisbon via bus with a few tourist stops along the way, but it was a little stressful by then, as we were worried that transport between localities would cease. It all worked out OK and we had a few days in Lisbon to finally wind down. I think Portugal went into a stricter lockdown shortly after I left. I feel very blessed that I was able to complete the Camino plus a bit extra in these crazy times. It's still uncertain when we will be able to return in 2021.
