Crazy Way to SJPP?

So, I'm spending a few days in Barcelona before my Camino, and then I'm flying into San Sebastian to get to SJPP. I know I have to take a train from Irun / Hendaye to get to Bayonne, and a train from there to Saint Jean.

Here's the crazy question: to get from the airport in San Sebastian to the train station, can I just walk? I have read people post that it is a short cab ride, but Google Maps shows it to be about an hour walk, just essentially a walk around the airport.

Has anyone else done this? Is there any reason this isn't do-able?

Using google earth its two kilometers to Irun Renfe Station. I figure not more than 1/2 hour. Walking the route on google earth streetview shows nothing that would deter anyone from walking other than volume of traffic on the road. The only caution is that it would not be good form to miss the last train if you could have caught it had you taken a taxi.

Arriving in EAS it is quite easy to take the bus to Irun. The bus picks up on the other side of the street opposite side of the airport. Doing this in '10, I was in Irun in maybe 10 minutes? Trying to recall if the bus passed the train station and almost sure it did. Recalling a good look because the bus driver forgot I was on the bus and took me full circle back to EAS (San Sebastian) and then took me back again to Irun to let me off near the refugio.

Whatever you choose, you will have plenty of time since arriving so early.

Never ceases to amaze me to what length people go to start in SJPdP. Its just another small village on the trail and the start there has no historic relevance. Why all the complication with trains, taxis, schedules, etc, when you can just start in San Sebastian?
But of course it’s your Camino and I wish you all the best.
