Credencial Del Peregrino

Time of past OR future Camino
Portugues. Starting 26th August 2020 from Porto.
Hi All

I will be starting my first Camino on the 2nd September 2022 walking from Porto to Santiago on the Coastal route.

I have a few questions as regards the Credencial del Peregrino.

1. Whilst I am setting out from Porto on the morning of the 2nd September I will be getting the Metro to Matosinhos and will start walking from there. Do I get my first stamp in Porto or in Matosinhos ?
2. Every time I get my Credential stamped do I have to hand write the date next to the stamp ?
3. The requirement to get 2 stamps per day for the final 100k does this apply to all pilgrims or only those walking the final 100k only ?
4. There is a space on the first page of my credential DNI/Passaporte. Is this the reference from my personal Irish passport or is it some other reference number allocated by the pilgrims office in Santiago ?

Appreciate your help. Sorry if this is all a bit basic !

Kindest regards

Mike

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

1. Entirely up to you. The cathedral has a nice stamp;
2. Depends. Some will come date stamped, some will be dated by the stampee, otherwise, yes;
3. Anyone walking the last 100km who wishes to claim a Compostela even if they started walking from Ultimate Thule;
4. Your passport number.

You’re welcome. Buen Camino 😉
Perfect

You also have another option for getting up to Matosinhos. From downtown, near the train station, catch the #500 bus that will take you up the river to the coast before turning north. The last stop on the bus route is the Mercado in Matosinhos. From there, you just walk across the pedestrian bridge and you’re off on your Camino. It’s a lovely ride along the river in a double-decker bus giving you some great views. For the same price as a subway ticket, you have a much nicer trip. Bom Caminho!

Regarding stamps, I’ve always collected as many as my Credencial had room for. I find that the sellos are a great way to look back upon all the stops and places you’ve been to on your Camino.

Is there a reason that you don't want to take the lovely walk along the Duoro River from the Cathedral to Matosinhos?
A combination of flight times, pre booked accommodation and an over optimistic estimate of how far I could walk on the first day ! In a nutshell just poor planning on my part.
On a more positive note I am travelling back to Porto from Santiago at the end of my Camino and will have plenty of time to walk along the Duoro River without the burden of my backpack which I can leave in my hotel.

Thank you for your advice. The 500 bus it will be then. It's a plan.
