Definitely more common for gites to not take credit cards, but there are some. Note that while they might take Visa, they much more rarely accept AmEx.

So is it still the case that most gites on the Chemin Via Le Puy do not take credit cards?
We just got off the Chemin in October. Many more than I thought accepted credit cards and we used it when we could but you should be prepared for some not to. Miam Dodo guide is probably the most up to date on that.
