LIVE from the Camino Current conditions: Big wave on the Francés

Please please don’t book five days in advance. I prefer not to use electronics on my Camino and so stay at the municipal and today in Najera was turned away. I found one bed on booking.com (our Lady responded to my tears) now I am here in a dormitory with 16 beds 8 are going unused. The booking system is creating much of the problem with no beds when so many people are making reservations and not canceling if not able to make it.

Hello, is it fair to say that if one were to start walking at the end of September (this year) from SJPP that the crowds will be less and municipal albergue accommodation will be more readily available?
Thanks all

Got in to Longrono from Los Arcos about 1:30 yesterday on Sept 10 and feet started searing in pain last 6 km. Went to Albergue where friends had reserved. No bed. Albergue manager looked on his computer and couldn’t find me a bed. I was in so much pain that I couldn’t go forward so got a hotel. I don’t know what is ahead but if you don’t book, you have to run for a bed, which I feel is not the Camino experience I was looking for. If you are naturally a fast walker who likes to start really early, you can get municipal. But more people I’m meeting are now booking ahead. I also would say the trail is very crowded. I see people ahead and behind me on trail all day. It’s not a wave. It’s a sea.
Los Arcos for Sunday 9/18 seemingly is completely full. Unless, my family can walk super fast to the municipal, no beds are available. I feel the same sentiment , sadly, it seems it truly is a bed race.

When you phoned the delightful lady at Albergue la Fuente Casa Austria on +34 948640797 what did she recommend as an alternative?

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Depending on which alternate route you walk have you considered staying at Albergue Casa Tiago or Albergue Oasis Trails?

Roncesvalles or push to Burguete? I prefer to avoid the recommended stages to avoid the race for albergues. Do you suggest Burguete? Is Roncesvalles too busy?
