Hi,

I found that there is no train service form Bayonne to Saint Jean Pied de Port, but there is a bus service (is this true?).

Can you help me to book a seat and find the address from where the bus depart?

I will arrive Bayonne from Bilbao on Friday, May 28 about 4pm

I found that there is a bus at 18:12 arriving 19:35 but there is no way to buy a ticket or to find any more information: http://hafas.bene-system.com

Thank you for your help.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Thank you Jean Marc,

I would like to buy my ticket before my arrival to Bayonne. In the wave page, from Bayonne, there is no SJPDP as option to buy in the web page (https://be-internet.bene-system.com/sel ... cale=en_GB)

Do you know other vendor?

Do you have any hostal preference in SJPDP? I will arrive after 7pm

Juan

Juan, you didn't mentioned where you live, but if you reside anywhere in Europe except France, http://www.tgv-europe.com should be very useful.

¡Buen Camino!

Hi Juan,
You mention that you are looking for an auberge in SJPP. I can suggest L'Esprit du Chemin, just booked a night for myself. Must pay for communal dinner and breakfast but all reasonable and Huberta, one of the owners has been VERY helpful in answering my questions. Here is the link: http://www.espritduchemin.org/EC/LEsprit_du_Chemin.html
Good luck!

Don´t get too fussed if you don´t buy a ticket beforehand. It took me all of 2 mins to buy a ticket (8.6E) and then head out the station, turn left and head to the parking lot where the bus was waiting. Put my rucksack in the boot, and we were off 5 mins later. Took the 11.47a.m. bus, arriving in SJPP around 1.15p.m.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

I too am struggling to find out how you get a ticket to SJPP from Bayonne. I guess I will just wait until I get there and get my ticket also. I even chatted with a woman online from the train company and she said there is not train. That I have to take a bus. Not sure if that is new this year? Curious if anyone else had this much trouble??

The current use of REPLACEMENT buses has been discussed in several earlier Forum threads. See for example this recent post. Replacement was necessitated by landslides on the rr tracks following spring rains. This has happened during past years also. The substitute buses are provided at the Bayonne railroad station, ie. Gare SNCF Bayonne. The price of the substitute bus ticket is the same as for the regular TER line 62 train to SJPdP which it replaces. The bus ticket can be bought at the rr station or if you hold a valid TER line 62 train ticket it can be used on the bus. The substitute buses depart at the same time as the TER line 62 trains were scheduled to depart.

You have two options:

Buy a ticket online from SNCF or SNCF TER website (I got as far as the point where they want my card number); or,

Buy a ticket at the train station.

The ticket is for passage from Bayonne to SJPdP. SNCF gets to determine if that passage is by train or by bus. The end result is that you are delivered to SJPdP. Even when track and train are in good repair a bus is sometimes laid on, perhaps because of demand levels.

Help!!! I already have my train ticket from Paris CDG to Bayonne, but trying to buy my ticket from Bayonne to SJPP. No problem finding the tickets, but it seems I can't use a standard Credit Card for purchase as the site says "you will need a pin # to retrieve them either from a machine or ticket counter". Can I get an e ticket for this train as I didn't see it offered on the site or will I have to use a bank debit card to purchase?

No e ticket. Try your bank debit card or purchase the Bayonne to SJPdP ticket on site in Bayonne. There are NO reserved seats for this transport.

Thanks MM. I don't care about a seat or even if I have one, I just want to be sure I will get on the train. Are they ever overbooked?

Passengers can stand, so I don't think they view it as overbooking, just no seat available. Buses are being used for the route because of track repairs. They can either keep adding buses, or turn people away. I do not know what they are doing. It is France, after all!!!
Yikes, I think I'll try booking with my bank card! Thanks guys. :)

Nothing is ever certain! If the trains are in use there is plenty of space to stand in each car as on a tram or subway. If the substitute buses are in use there would be a limited number of seats on each bus, but perhaps several buses running at the scheduled time.

I've done this several times in Bayonne: just show up and buy a ticket. Even buying a ticket from the comfort of your own home thousands of miles away doesn't guarantee anything since there are no reserved seats on that train from Bayonne to St Jean Pied de Port. In other words, once you've got a ticket in your hand and you're standing next to the train (or the replacement bus), you have as much chance as anyone else has at getting a seat.

First come, first served. :) :)

Bon voyage !
