For anyone coming into Leon the "new" pedestrian foot bridge crossing mentioned in Brierly's guide is closed. The current path takes almost you 2 kilometers out of the way and after a steep descent through vacant fields crosses the highway and rejoins the camino

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

the reason for the detour being?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Pedestrian bridge is closed (looked okay, but something must be wrong with it). You can actually dodge cars and cross the road about 1km prior, but that could be risky depending upon traffic.

In the grand scheme of things, what’s 2km more out of 800 or so? Sure, I complained too, but the sheer awesomeness of the Cathedral in Leon makes it all better!

but why the detour no one seems to be able tsay.

Because the pedestrian bridge is closed (as previously stated).

Thanks for the info. Is the new route/detour well marked?

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
Well marked - goes past an abandoned housing project, past some warehouses, and then down a rocky trail in a field. Rejoins the usual Camino route at the Tourist Information building. It’s not terrible, just a bit of a bummer because it’s uphill right at the time you think you are heading down into Leon

There's nothing wrong with the footbridge, the closure and deviation of the Camino Frances trail just before Leon has to do with roadworks, see article and overview in https://www.noticiascyl.com/leon/so...o-provisional-del-camino-de-santiago-en-leon/

A small part of the track - when you turn left and descend along a wooded area - is steep and can be very slippery after rain. Use poles or find your way through the shrubland/low vegetation to the right or left of the muddy path. Better a bit of erosion than a broken bone.
