Hi all.
I love to sing and have been practicing the Pilgrims song over the last few weeks. I have the words printed out and have just about got the chant in my head.
Tomorrow I will arrive in Leon and will then walk to Sarria over the next 9 days
Would it be ok to sing in any churches on the way? I obviously will not interrupt any services or celebrations. Should I seek permission first and if so from whom? I do not speak Spanish this this could be a problem!
Or should I just mumble to myself as I walk?
Your advice please.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Do not mumble to yourself as you walk!

Sing loud, clear and beautiful as you walk. You might put joy in the hearts of others who walk.

Churches...play it by ear...if you see someone in charge, ask them. Look up and practice a question about whether it’s ok to sing...I’m sure you’ll figure out whether it’s a yes or a no even without speaking Spanish.

Have fun!

Why not give a full-throated rendition in an albergue around 5am some morning? I'm sure the other pilgrims will appreciate being woken by such a wonderful song and will, as a result, be eager to step out into the day fortified by the ringing tones in their ears.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

What a great idea... that would certainly give me plenty of people to talk to on the way!

Paul, If you find an open church, check with others if they would be ok for you to sing... and off you go. I once listened to a pilgrim sing a Jewish lament and nobody moved or made a sound. It was spellbinding. It will be just what someone needs, and it is a great gift to take with you. Weighs nothing, everybody enjoys it, and there is always more...

Here is a pic from 2016, I love the simplicity of the sketch map and directions "1 km climb up, 5km flat, 5km down". I wonder how the prices are now?
