EE to eliminate free roaming

Sadly, starting in June 2023, UK mobile provider EE will eliminate free EU roaming for its paypack users, subjecting them to the same charges as it’s regular subscribers: €2 a day or €10 for a week. Most other UK sims have been charging this for awhile, but EE was my service of choice because they didn’t.

Sorry to hear it. Will you switch services?

I’m with EE and is an option to add a roam abroad pass for £15 for a month which allows you to use your normal calling, text and data allowances abroad.

I am a very occasional mobile phone user in the UK. Until recently I had a PAYG SIM with Three but switched to Lycamobile because of their pricing. They allow up to 2Gb of your data bundle to be used for EU roaming. For a shorter Camino I find that is enough. I am currently on a bundle with 3Gb of data, calls and texts for £5 per month.

That’s true for contract EE users versus those of us who occasionally activate using the Pay Pack option which allows you to activate for one month at a time.

As the free EU roaming was the main reason for my using EE, I will definitely not be using it in the future when I travel to the rest of Europe since my 10£ monthly plan will become a 40£+ plan 😞. Cheaper to simply use a Spanish SIM card.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I’m on a monthly contract so it works for me.

I have been on a UK monthly contract with EE (and their predecessor brand) for over 15 years - these days SIM only. When they informed me that they were going to charge for EU roaming I gave them notice to cancel. They called me and offered me a cheaper deal, to include EU roaming at no extra charge, which I accepted.
My wife has a low cost, SIM-only deal with Lebarra, using Vodafone infrastructure, which includes free roaming in EU (and India!). There are deals out there, in competitive mobile phone markets.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
