Elevation Profiles for Each Stage of the Camino - SJPP to Santiago

I just wanted to share a file with anyone who is interested in clearly seeing the elevation of the Camino Frances for each stage. Hope you find it interesting!

French of course, the French and the Germans are bonkers on typography, their guides even more detailed as to the rise and fall of the Camino, down to 500 meter sections. Not criticizing mind you, but such maps are not for the faint hearted or many first timers, simply make the Camino a scary looking place. Nice to have a warning before leaving say Castrojerez or climbing Alto del Perdon but too much information can become intimidating.

As someone who lives and trains in the flatlands of Florida, I don't pay much attention to those. It's either do it, or don't.

That and the other piece of paper - the list of some albergues - that they give you at the Pilgrims Office in SJPdP, were all I needed as a guide to walk the Camino. I still have mine with all the planning notations, trying to figure out places to stop.

They have been giving out the two sheets for nearly two decades. The terrain profile does not change, but the albergue list gets updated. It is all that many pilgrims ever use!

I walked from SJPP to Santiago by only following the yellow arrows. I had a list of refuges, but that was it. I didn't even have a map and I was oblivious to the mountains and elevation, which is why I froze at night in my sleeping bag liner on the floor of monasteries.

So you were more miserable than you needed to be?

I received this file at the pilgrim office in SJPdP. Used it often.

Yes I was! I thought that Spain would be hot in July and, in some places, it was. But quite often it was chilly, especially at night on the floor of the refuges (when I couldn't get a bed). I wouldn't go again without my sleeping bag.
