I have to learn English...I would like it..
I'm fifty, working as project manager and looking for mate or group speeking english on El Camino...We are walking together with sense of humor....and talking a lot....If you want..please write me a post, threads...
I'm ready to go approx...in July...1 or 2 weeks long trip.
Maybe I'm on level 3/10...🙃

The Camino is universal and, as such, you will have little trouble finding pilgrims that speak English. There is always the chance someone will not admit they "understand" English, but at some point, when they believe the time is right, they will join the conversation.

However, I think that this year, with so many native English speakers who aren't able yet to go to Spain it could be more difficult to find a group of English speakers to walk with.
As a native English speaker myself I've often had days on the Camino with no other English speakers to talk to in a normal year.

That's when I revert to the oldest forms of communication "grunts, whistles and sign language."
 
Equivalent terms for Please, Thank you, How much, and Toilet are always handy basics in any language.

Luckily when all else fails the commonality is pantomime! After all you do not enter a bar/cafe to buy a used car.

My worst mis-understanding was ordering what I thought would be a starter and a main plate and ending up with 2 different tureens of soup!

Unless you're maybe walking mainly in Portugal this year, you will likely not be starved of opportunities to improve your English.

Rule number one -- go and talk to people.

Worked well for my dad, and he sold millions of English as a Foreign Language books.
