"Of course no self respecting pilgrim would stay there", though it once was an albergue. (Can we have it back, please?)
I have not stayed there but if you go to the parador at LeĂłn, Santiago or Santo Domingo remember that they are all steeped in Camino history. (Can we have them all back, please?)
The LeĂłn parador was at one point (built as?) the HQ of the Order of the Knights of Santiago.
Take your camera and get lots of shots. I stayed in the Santiago parador for my 50th birthday and spent the best part of a day going everywhere I was allowed and took lots of photos and video. Given the expense I doubt if I will stay there again.
Given the prices of paradors you must make the most of your stay there unless, of course, you are rich and don't notice the size of the bill.
