As I prepare for my upcoming treks, I've been reviewing some helpful vocabulary. As a lover of words, I was amused when pondering the word(s) for when an airplane takes off: "despegar" (sp.) and "decoller" (fr.) - both mean "to unstick", which is decidedly better than the alternative!
IMHO, these words are far better than the English term - I really don't like the idea that anything is "taken off" the airplane as it leaves the ground!

What are your favorites?

Not Spanish or French.... But my favourite English term is, "The aircraft will be taking off momentarily." 'Momentarily' meaning 'for a short while.' o_O
That's hysterical!

The French have a term for an improvised party/get together or a slightly messy but joyful gathering/situation 'comme une auberge espagnole' meaning like a Spanish albergue. I always wondered with that has a relation to the Camino.

As for Spanish words - my favourite is chisme = thingy, incredibly useful if you don't know the correct term for something, just point to it and call it chisme ;-)
