A heads up to pilgrims planning to transit through Bayonne late in July, there is a huge festival in Bayonne during the final weekend of July. It attracts 100's of 1000's of tourists for several day and hotels are very hard to come by in Bayonne and Biarritz during the fete.
It is a wonderful event to attend and very similar to San Fermin in Pamplona, it's a non stop party with running of the bulls and bull fights as well at the local arena. Details at: www.fetes.bayonne.fr
