The hospitalera in Almadén de la Plata just sent me a whatsapp message telling me the albergue has suffered a fire, the insurance company still has to go and assess damage and then they will have to repair it. It will take a while, she cannot tell how long, I do not know if it is totally or partially closed, hopefully somebody from around the area might be able to provide updated information.
Terrible news, because that means either private accommodation, and there is not a lot of it, or else doing 44 km from Castilblanco to Real de la Jara

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
There are a couple of private hotels on booking.com in Almaden. Casa Concho looks lovely! Perhaps you can find another pilgrim who will share a room with you.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Thanks for that information.
Sorry to hear of that.

Speaking of fires, I always take a second to look around and think "what if a fire."

Some of the places I have stayed at I wondered how everyone could/would get out safely.

Haven't seen smokers smoking in bed. Guess others would yell at them. And it is in violation of the rules.

It's the smoke that will kill you. Not so much heat and flames.

Be safe all.
Blessings.

Yes, I worried a little about fire, especially being locked in at night in many places.

Completely agree. And you know, it is totally impermissible (not sure if under EU or Spanish law) for people to be locked in with no means of escape in case of fire or any other calamity. But yet there are still places that somehow think it's ok.

Thanks for the news, @amancio. I stayed in Casa Concha once and it was quite fine. I was in one of those "no albergue for me tonight" moods. It was new then (this was more than 10 years ago, though), kind of anteseptic, but very clean and functional.

I'm about to set out on the Vdlp, so thank you very much @amancio for the update. Will consider booking ahead.

Albergue La Casa del Reloj was a pleasant, friendly and inexpensive spot in Almaden when I stayed there last summer.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
