Camino Ingles 2020
My family (DH and DD) are talking about doingthe Camino Ingles in June of 2020. We are massive foodies - has any one gotten tips, places to stock up, or where to eat (and stay).

Should we be prepared with picnics or can we get them on route? I saw some places you could pre book them with your accommodations. Is that suggested?

Thank you!

Yep. But more or less it's olive oil. Would that be passable for you?
Otherwise you'll be on a diet.

I'm sure you can get decent meal in towns like Ferrol, Pontedeume, Mino, Betanzos etc. I would mostly go for a sea food because of the proximity of the ocean and the ingredients would be absolutely fresh but you can get meat and veggies in various different meals.

I especially remember very good meal in Presedo (also an albergue in village) in this place:

It's right on the Camino, one meter to the right and through the fence :)

Buen provecho!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
I can do oil, but just not alot. My daughter is in remission from Crohns, and I have IBD

Not everything is oily. A la plancha means grilled. The galician specialities pulpo and caldo gallego are not greasy. Be aware that beany soups often contain lard.

Betanzos is nationally famous for tortilla. If you tell Spanish people you are going there they get all excited for you.

BTW aceite is cooking oil. You can say sin aceite, or sin vinagreta for no salad dressing.
Bajo en grasas is low fat
Desnatado means skimmed (as in milk, yogurt)
Chips are very prevalent, you could try asking for boiled potatoes instead? Patatas hervidas.

If you have special dietary requirements you can make a card to show waiting staff.

Ah no wonder you are planning ahead no oil could be a big problem most fish dishes are in oil but salads etc a la plancha ( but they are really really really dry) you may have to cook for yourselves better to err on the side of caution - a little oil does usually mean at least 300mls... you can get fish a la plancha with no oil so I guess look for all the dishes a la plancha style

Or in a bar my fav the Sandwich Vegetal - not in any way vegetarian but quite crunchy and low fat. Ask for sin mayonesa.

In Galicia they have their own word for boiled potatoes (often boiled sliced potatoes): "cachelos"
(You can see them in the photo above of Hake and Potatoes)

However, they often come with olive oil drizzled over top, so be sure to say "sin aceite" if you want to avoid olive oil.

Yes! @notion900 I agree! They actually grow a lot of really good quality potatoes in Galicia, and I enjoy them most in the form of cachelos!!
