For English speakers, any recommendations for guide books and apps?
Yes. The recommendation is to get comfortable with some French. So far I have the "yellow book" in German for route description, the "yellow guide" on lodgings from the Amis organization, and a couple iPhone map apps in French. I met an American woman walking the Le Puy route with absolutely no French skills. It was tough! But she made it work with some pigeon sign-language and a good guide book.
I'd suggest getting the latest Miam Miam Dodo (for accommodations and utilities in each town, it's in French but uses easy to understand symbols)
As well as the Michelin Guide for more accurate distance measures.
Hope that helps! Buen Camino
is there a place in Le Puy to get these? I think I have seen Madam Dodo on Amazon, but not Michelin Guide from Le Puy
I don't speak French or German
