Getting from Castrojeriz to Leon

Camino Frances - August - September 2015
My husband and I are walking the CF from Saint Jean and Santiago (Late August to late September.)

We want to skip the section from Castrojeriz to Leon. I've done some research and the best way I can find to do it, is, after finishing the walk to Castrojerez , take a taxi back to Burgos and take a train or bus to Leon from Burgos. Has anyone done this? Are taxis plentiful in Castrojerez, would we have to book one ahead of time? Will we be able to make a connection to the train all in the same day?

Castrojeriz is a small town (less than 1000 inhabitants) so don't expect too many taxis. It seems there's an enterprise (www.autocareszyz.es) that provides taxi service at Castrojeriz. You might get in touch with them for info about fares. I don't know if there's any other taxi service in Castrojeriz.

The last train and the last bus from Burgos to León is in the afternoon (next ones are after midnight). Palencia is roughly as far away from Castrojeriz as Burgos and from Palencia there are later train connections to León so it could be an option to consider if you don't find a taxi early in the afternoon (or before).

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

I guess it depends on when you go. If you go in the AM you will be able to make it to Leon on the same day using bus and train via Burgos. If you go in the evening you can go to Fromista and spend the night there.

Autobuses Amaya operates a bus from Castrojerez to Burgos AM weekdays. The bus goes from Burgos to Fromista via Castrojerez in the evening (arriving 1900 - too late to catch the train).

Renfe operates trains from Burgos to Leon. Trains also go from Fromista to Palencia and onward to Leon (last train 1851).

The climb out of Castrojeriz is steep but short. If you get up pre-sunrise it is a spectacular view from the hilltop. It is a pretty easy walk to Fromista and a great little church to visit there.

I understand this is not what you asked. Fromista is a small town but has a good sized road going through it so a bus or taxi could be available.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
I remember seeing pilgrims lined up to take the bus in Fromista when I was walking through but that was in the fall of 2009.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Thank you for the suggestion Joe. My husband and I walked the extra stage from Catrojeriz to Fromista in September. It was one of the most beautiful stages on the Camino!
