Getting the Ring to Santiago!

Hey there,
I start my camino August 29th SJPDP. My girlfriend is meeting me in Santiago for a romantic week at the end, during which I will be proposing!
I want to do it with the actual ring, but this adds a little problem - getting the ring to SJPDP.
Options I can see :
1 Carry it with me along my camino (security issues, plus worry)
2 Get my girlfriend to bring it with her, as I'm packing a small bag for her to bring (possible lost baggage, customs reveal it to her)

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Re: Getting a diamond ring to Santiago

By all means bring it yourself, pack it into your shower kit next to the shampoo and toothbrush. While it is highly unlikely that you will lose or have stolen your trekking poles, your wallet or your watch, nobody but absolutely nobody will steal your deodorant. If you should still be worried, put it in with your nasty laundry, sweaty socks stinky undershirts and grimy unmentionables will keep even the most dreadful desperados at bay.

Re: Getting a diamond ring to Santiago

Post it to yourself poste restante or to a hotel you have booked in Santiago, insured and tracked delivery, and pick it up when you get there? Good luck and congratulations, I hope!

Buen Camino!

Getting a diamond ring to Santiago

Yeah, I contacted the hotel about an hour ago and they have responded saying its fine to send it to them.
So I'll get my dad to send it out about a week before I'm due to arrive.

Removes the stress! Hopefully ill check in and it'll be waiting in the safe for me!

Good that you've already solved the "problem". But - wouldn't it be nice to carry this ring all the way from SJPdP around your neck (on a "strong" necklace) and allow the metal/stone to accumulate every feeling you might have when on the road. I guess you'll be thinking of your sweetheart a lot while walking

And on the Plaza do Obradoiro you can just torn your shirt wide and............., OK, OK, OK........ 8)

Just an idea...

Ultreia!

And all the best to both of you!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Re: Getting a diamond ring to Santiago

Might I suggest bringing your girlfriend to Ferro de Cruz. Its a much more romantic place.

In the unlikely event that she turns you down you can cast the unwanted stone on the pile with the rest of them.

The only incidence of theft that occurred while I was on the camino that I was aware of involved the theft of a pack from the entrance to an Albergue. Since your laundry and deodorant are likely to be stored in your pack ... they are not good hiding places.

Ask the ring vendor if there is a way to transport it to another trusted vendor in Santiago.

If you have not yet purchased a ring ... buy it in Santiago.

Yes, or you could present it to her in your scallop shell! :D

Best of luck and Buen Camino!

I wore a money belt with cash passport and phone in, usually while I was asleep as well! And you could sew into lining. I too think it would be very romantic notion and symbolism to have carried the ring the whole way... But either way congratulations and best of luck. Im just back from mine and truly happy and blessed to have been there. Buen Camino.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Very romantic to propose to your girlfriend at the end of your camino! While I can definitely see the point of people who are suggesting to carry it with you...I'm honestly not sure that the symbolism is worth the extra stress! If I were you, I'd send it to the hotel via tracked and insured mail.

Bring a "stand-in" costume jewellery ring for the occasion and leave the real one at home.
You will be able to then enjoy your camino without worrying about the safety / safe arrival of the ring.
