I am hoping to join my friend in Leon to continue with her toward Santiago de Compostela. However, I am not sure how best to get to Leon. I am hoping to fly from London around Sunday 1st August and return on the 12th August. Which airport should I fly in and out of, and how do I then get to Leon. I will then have to return to the airport from somewhere further along, is it easy to get transport from different points along the way?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
You have to catch the bus to the centre of Valladolid if you have not already purchased a ticket to Leon on line.It is not possible to purchase a ticket at the airport. The Leon bus then takes
you back out to the airport and on to Leon. For me the better way was to catch the bus
into town and then catch the train which is faster and more room to move about. The fares are roughly the same or were you will have to check on that on.
The RENFE site is quite good, alsa not so. :)

Leon has an airport! It is in La Virgen del Camino about 1 km from the Camino Frances. If you do not want to visit Leon, you could meet in La Virgen at the bar in the Hostal Central. Otherwise, take the bus from the airport into Leon for a little over one Euro.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
You can always get an open-jaw ticket (flying into & out of different cities) so you don't have to waste time & money by having to double-back to Leon. You could also fly to Santiago, then take the train to Leon. Or fly into & out of Madrid, & take a plane, train, or bus to Leon. Then once you're done, you can either get back to Madrid & fly to London from there, or fly from Santiago to London.
