Great Website for Writing a Web Journal of Your Camino

Hi Peregrinos,
I discovered the website TrailJournals.com before I walked the Camino Frances last summer. It's an easy to use site where you can post a daily journal with photos. It's free. My family, especially, liked to be able to keep track of me as I plodded happily through Spain. Reading the journals on the Camino will answer a lot of questions and give you a good taste of what to expect. Most of the trails on the website are the wilderness ones like the Pacific Crest Trail, so, if you like walking, you can get lots of ideas there!

TrailJournals is not that great,it's really designed for backpackers, not pilgrims....you'd be better off using WordPress or Blogger, both of which have mobile versions for blogging from your phone or tablet and are very easy to use. But then again, most pilgrims start blogging for a few days and then stop, so I guess it doesn't really matter... And for the record, I think it's great people stop blogging and enjoy their Camino! If you can blog and enjoy it, even better. I find most people realize how important it is to BE in the moment and realize they don't need to blog all the time.

That being said, I do enjoy following pilgrims and their online journals no matter where they post them, so I'll be sure to check yours out!

What I like about Trail Journals is that it's a collection of journals, not a stand-alone blog. When you click on a trail, you get a list of the people who are keeping journals and when they last updated it. (There are a number of people writing journals on the Camino right now.) Each person has their own way of telling the same story (everyone's walking the same trail), but each journal is unique. Reading some of the journals will answer a lot of the questions that people are asking on this forum, and, of course, they let you armchair onto the Camino. I suspect that more people will see your journal if it's on a site like Trail Journals than if you do your own blog.

If it works for you. The only people reading your journal are other Trail Journals users. I've noticed a shift of thru-hikers starting their own blogs and not posting on Trail Journals anymore. There may be a generational difference there too. It's Web 1.0 and we are in a Web 2.0 era. The UI is not easy to navigate (much like this site) and unlike this site, doesn't seem to use SEO very well. The RSS option is the only good thing about it!

I'm glad you've found something that works for you. It's not the only option.

Hi ... I writing this as a Place Holder so I can find my way back to Sarah Keyt's Blog .. Read first couple days and am enjoying but need to get back to the grindstone ..

Joe use Feedly to add the TJ pas an RSS feed and then you won't have to do that. New entries will come to you! Although after experimenting with TJs RSS option it's not very good either.

Like you blog !.. ^5 on the review of new Guide Book. I have the other one you mentioned ( who dosen't) so will order this an check'r out.
