Help finding missing luggage (Correos)

Hi,

I am looking for any help or advice on how to find missing luggage that was supposed to be transferred by Correos.

I am on the Camino Portuguese and today Correos’ Paq Mochila service was supposed to pick up my backpack in Tui and deliver it in O Porrino. However, my backpack hasn’t arrived. I also did not get a confirmation email saying that Correos picked up my backpack (which I should have received), though I left it in the designated place in my Tui accommodations and it was taken/moved from there.

What can I do to try to find my bag? The Correos phone line is closed on Sundays. I have emailed them bit not heard back yet. I have also Messaged the hosts at my accommodations in Tui and I’m O Porrino.

Any help would be wonderful! Thank you.

You should have a phone number you can call. Ask to speak to someone in English, they will find someone. Have your Correos number to hand, it will help them find where it's been left, or if it's not been collected.

When I used Correos' Paq Mochila service I had a couple of problems that were my fault. The first occurred when I forgot to register my next destination in time, so I had to carry my pack that day. The second was when I sat waiting and waiting and it didn't turn up. When I checked online I had made a mistake and my pack was at my destination for the following day!! I then had to take a taxi to go and collect it and return to my albergue. I spoke to Correos on the phone a few times and always (after a delay) spoke to an English speaker. They were always very helpful. In Pamplona my pack didn't show up and luckily there was a Spanish speaker on hand who phoned for me. Correos then contacted the driver who had delivered my pack, because my accommodation was shut when he tried to deliver he had left it in the cafe next door. That did occur somewhere else too but that time I had a message to tell me where it was.

Best of luck

I hope that you were reunited with your pack? What happened?

We had a few problems with Correos Paq Mocila this fall on the Norte. They delivered my bag to a different place without telling me of the change. Another time, my bag took a big adventure and I didn’t receive it until late. Both times, because of the airtags I put in our bags, I was able to watch the location of my bag and with help from locals I was able to retrieve them. I’m not sure I would use this service again.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Sorry, my preference would be to contact Correos either at the nearest office or via phone as indicated when I sent the bag - I like interpersonal contact when I'm on camino. My contacts with correos have always been positive. Also, I'm seldom in a hurry. One time I added an email address and contact number to the bag in case it is delivered elsewhere - and received thanks from the receiving hostel. YMMV ;)
