Camino Frances (2014)
Yesterday I fell whilst of all things gardening and severely wrenched my knee that is now very swollen and painful sitting on a trolley in A& E awaiting news. Due to start travels on Wednesday to arrive SJdP on Thursday I may be on crutches not sure. Planned to walk with my 17 soon to be 18 year old son. How easy is it to get transport between stages, is it possible to stay in Alberg if not walked or does it mean private accom. My son will want to do Camino for our charities I would try to support but need info on getting between stops

First of all I wish you a quick recovery and that nothing bad is wrong with you knee !!!
I believe the only choice between SJPP and roncesvalles is to take a taxi. And you can stay in in roncesvalles without a problem a lot of Spanish pilgrim start there.
From there on its possible to make reservations at the albergues like in zubiri and tell them you are injured.

The most important thing is not to push your body right now, just take it easy till it's fully heal

The cost of a taxi will be roughly 1 euro per kilometer travelled. Ask the estimated price before you enter a taxi! Albergues can also call a taxi for you. JacoTrans which is a camino luggage service might also provide a taxi service for you.

Generally you may make reservations in private albergues, but not in municipal ones.
A fast way to see private albergues which take rservations is to use this Eroski list. The list is organized by Etapas ie camino sections . Click on any albergue name and when the page loads click on the orange box marked Ver ficha completa. When that second page loads look for the phrase Reserva de plaza en el albergue:

Do try to take it easy as you begin your camino.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

The ALSA bus between Pamplona and SJPdP stops in Roncesvalles going both directions, so you can take the bus. From Roncesvalles to Pamplona you can take the same bus, and there is another bus operator who operates six days a week.

Its usually possible to find transport to any village on the camino. Frequency of service is a limiting factor as some remote villages have one bus per week.

Bus net works resemble a spider web with a main hub at its center. This means that often it will be necessary to backtrack before being able to connect to transportation to your destination.

There is a bus from SJPdP to Roncesvalles. Its operated by Conda, a subsidiary of ALSA. The bus originates in Pamplona and then returns from SJPdP. The bus from SJPdP leaves at 1915.

Autocares Artieda provides bus service to villages from Roncesvalles to Pamplona and leaves 0920 (but not Sundays)

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Shalom Andrew and Greetings from Jerusalem!
That is indeed bad news but listen to your body! The adrenaline produced by your body while walking is a good pain killer. Should you decide to come to Spain listen to your body! Ibuprofen (generic Advil) in caplets of 600mg is available over the counter in Spain as well as an ointment with the same stuff-do NOT be tempted! You will only make it worse without feeling much of anything. The Camino is full of injured people walking, some are laid up in albergues for different spells many are forced to return home. Remember the "Sunsceen Song" 'Be kind to your knees, you will miss them when they are gone"! I am no mystic but my many experiences on different Caminos have proven that nothing, absolutely nothing, occurs by chance-at the time one may not realize the significance of whatever event but it was meant to be. A word with San Roque can only help.
Get well soon!

Andrew --- May you have a swift recovery.

I suspect you're more likely to be able to catch the bus or train between stops if you're following Brierley's stages, or possibly the Eroski stages. I haven't seen anyone assemble a guide to bus/train hopping the Camino, but there might be one out there, or your research might produce one for assistance to later pilgrims.
