I talked my (spiritually inclined) 75-yr old father into doing the Camino this spring. I offered to come along as support/companionship. Being 75 and not a lifetime hiker, he's only going to try about two weeks on the Camino but I figured if I'm going I might as well do the whole thing. I expect to start in SJPdP the second week of April and meet him down the line somewhere (city TBD).

As for me, I'm currently near the end of a 15-month long motorcycle trip from NYC to Ushuaia, so I don't expect much lifestyle shock once I get on the Camino. At least not to the degree as one coming from a 9-5 routine. I expect I'll be posting some logistical questions on here in the coming weeks, as well as questions regarding issues related to walking the Camino at a more advanced age.

Anyway, happy to virtually meet y'all.

Very true, but I prefer to fantasize about potentially exciting things that actually had some possibility of becoming reality....motorcycles, no way. I've stopped riding on the back of my husband's, too afraid of deer jumping out!

Well, most of the adventure riders I meet on the road are men in their 50s and 60s, so age is not an issue. I've also met a few on 125cc or similar bikes, where speed is not an option. I met this guy a few weeks ago in Tierra del Fuego. Swiss guy that converted a Royal Enfield to a diesel engine. Only got 8hp that topped out at 80-ish kph (~50mph) but that didn't stop him from riding from Switzerland through Iran, India, Indonesia, and so on until he shipped the bike to Buenos Aires to tackle these continents. Safe and slow he goes:

The best part of traveling by bike is that you can go wherever you want without planning or schedules. Backpackers traveling by bus don't have this luxury while car travelers can be limited by roads (and traffic...in Latin America it's okay to just ride past everyone on a traffic line with your bike). Plus, when people see your license plate and bike full of bags they have no qualms about striking up conversation...at gas stations, town plazas, national parks, wherever. Really, the only way to travel. But I'm biased.
