Wandered by chance into a small albergue 12km after Leon in a place called Oncina de la Valdoncina.. the albergue is called El pajar... It turns out not only is the albergue amazing.. the owners are beyond awesome and he has a music studio out the back and loves everyone to play/sing etc...

YES! My favorite last year, too! There were only two other pilgrims who discovered it the same time I did. When I was there, there was a kitten nursing on a dog. The couple were fantastic, the setting and ambiente, perfect. They weren't in any guidebooks last year, so I hope they are now.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
That is the most gorgeous thing.
what with the animals and the music I've earmarked to stay here next year!
My husband has been considering carrying his guitar (I have warned him, if he chooses to take it, he has to carry it). My guess if it gets too heavy he'll send his bag on, but carry his guitar.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc

Okay, here's a few more from this albergue, the hospitalero with the favorite kitten, one of the unusual cave houses in the town, leaving on the early morning camino.

today I am in Virgen Del Camino it is 5am and have been wondering where to stay next. You have just answered my question! My Camino is all about going slow and ‘smelling the roses’ (my health and age demand this) The Camino always answers my prayers. Small miracles make their daily appearance. My Camino is a place where magic happens.
Thank you
Buen Camino

This sounds absolutely amazing . I am a musician and have walked the Camino a few times and was a hospitelero at Vercuanos last October but have never heard of this albergue . I am hoping to walk again -from Sahagun to Santiago in late September this year if things work out , and I will definately look out for this oasis. Is it on an alternative route out of Leon ? Thanks so much for posting about it . Cheers

Sorry for the typo .. I meant Bercianos

Be sure to pay attention to the turn off to the alternate route to get to this albergue. You will love it!
Can I ask where the turn off to the alternative route to 'El Pajar' music albergue is -how I can find it if I am coming from Leon ? Thankyou kindly

Did you make it there?

200 meters after leaving Virgen del Camino, you will have two choices for the route to take. Watch for this junction. You should turn off to the left onto a gravel road for this preferred, alternate way. Ignore the later confusing arrows that try to direct you back to the right. You will go through the village of Fresno de Camino and soon after will arrive in Oncina de la Valdoncina, which is where El Pajar is. When I was there last fall, I found it by the guitar hanging out the top story window.

Here is a pic from 2016, I love the simplicity of the sketch map and directions "1 km climb up, 5km flat, 5km down". I wonder how the prices are now?
Reposted from Wise Pilgrim comments, was hiking with this pilgrim. Don’t follow app,go just a bit further past to well marked turn, not the one with spray painted arrow on stop sign:
