Interesting Hi-Vis clothing seen...

...at Santiago. Here are two things I saw today. They focus on how to wear hi-viz safety colors do as to be visible while walking.

The first image suggests one clever way to wear a hi-viz safety vest.

The second image suggests one way to present a moving, hi-viz warning to oncoming drivers, wake the dead, and cure a hangover. However, it might cause temporary blindness.

If you are going to wear Hi-Vis vests look for one that is to Class 3 - intended for highways work rather than Class 2 or Class 1 (is that a buttercup I see in yonder field?). A vest with sleeves makes you more "human shaped" and more visible and should have two reflective bands around them. You can get them with 3/4 sleeves so they're not so hot and in a material they call "tee-bag" in the UK construction industry - I believe American summer grade football shirts come in this too?



And, if you worry about getting cold, you can even get hi-vis fleece jackets - I've one knocking around somewhere that I refused to wear because it made me look like an oversized Teddy Bear.

As said before - hi-vis doesn't protect you, it just gives the drivers something to aim at.

It is his VERY BRIGHT trainers / shoes. They were a combination of hi-viz safety lime yellow neon, PLUS day-glo international orange.

He looked rather like a psychedelic poster from the 1960’s. Sure was bright, especially early in the morning.

If I posted the full size photo instead a a thumbnail. The color intensity would have more apparent.

Chris just returned home from walked a higgly piggly Portuguese Camino from Porto with her most excellent son Matthew. I had the extreme pleasure of sharing a meal with Chris, Alipilgrim, VNWalking, and SYates.

What we'd call a "Near Miss" on a UK construction site (hint: he's neither wearing gloves, ear nor eye protection)

I hike a lot in the national forest during hunting season, so Blaze Orange is the preferred color. I don't mind it and the shirts help make you visible to cars (and hunters!)

When we walked the VdlP back in 2015, the police stopped our little group of 4 (and I think we were filmed by the local TV ).... Anyway, they handed us one yellow vest and told us it should be worn on the backpack of the last walker.

Hear you's loud and clear. At the last minute before my first Camino, I grabbed this little clip on flashing red led tail light from my bike and, attached it to my backpack. Was I EVER so happy when we got to walking on some seriously blind curves on the CP!

As a motorcyclist as well as hiker I'm a big fan of hi-viz. I actually like the look, too. Nuclear lime green distracts and blinds the viewer from my ugly face. But I don't recall many places on the four CdS routes I have taken where it is particularly called for. There is, BTW, great debate on motorcycle fora as to whether hi-viz actually helps motorists see you, but the consensus is better safe than sorry.

Reflectability is more important at night, Hi-Viz perhaps in the day ... depending on how many other distractions are about.

Sooo.....to the Brits a shirt isn't a shirt if it only has sleeves, it must also go up to the neck? Thus the garment in the first photo, even though it has sleeves, is a vest? I'm so confused.

Don't forget that, in this instance, we're talking about specialised protective equipment - it's all very technical and you needn't worry about it

This is so true! Yes, 'accidents' will still happen but, it's our responsibility to do as much as we can to make ourselves visible.

I am bringing my yellow vest for visibility. Since I am traveling through Charles de Gaulle airport, I thought it would be hilarious if somebody thought I was part of the gilets jaunes movement. Not a political statement. I just don’t want to get hit by a car.
