It's today, my very favourite day

image.jpeg A quick update. We're reached El Acebo and and the walk across the mountains has been simply stunning - painted with flowers. Today's highlight was masses of wild lavender, in the most intense purple.
No problems at all with accommodation. Stayed at albergues San Antonio de Padua at Manzariffe, Christine's fabulous albergue at Villares de Orbigo, the municipal at Astorga, Gaucelmo at Rabanal and Casa del Pelegrino here. Did not book any.

Thank you for sharing your pics, Kanga! Some day I have to walk in June. Too gorgeous for words.
Will you do the Invierno?

I think that is one I would rather do with a friend. Although it is tempting.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
So here I am again, having a good time. I took the road through Valcarlos and it really is stunningly beautiful. Stayed in the Valcarlos albergue last night and there were only two of us in a twelve bed room. I had plenty of options in SJPDP the night before too, and now I'm happily in the albergue at Roncesvalles. Maybe the hoardes are staying away because they know I'm out there! If I want to meander along I will book ahead.
Buen Camino; maybe see you on the road?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Peter, Yes, you can walk the Canal du Midi all the way to Toulouse from Carcasonne, where it joins the Camino de Arles, which eventually joins the Camino Francés at Puente la Reina (Camino Aragones). To get to SJPDP you can cross over to the Chemin from Le Puy near Pau. You will need to do some research looking at maps and the various GR (Grande Randonee) paths in France. I'm on a tiny iPhone but have a look at the front page of the forum "Routes in France" to get started.

Kanga,
Setting up another Blue Mountains dinner and thinking of you, hoping you are well and g'day!
Digger from Mudgee has walked up from the South and will be in Santiago soon. He has done some 40 km days (usually by mistake!) and is also having a ball.
See you soon - hopefully.
Buen Camino
