Keen Sandals

Hi walked fron Leon to Santiago last August and this July we are going from St Jean to Leon. Last year I sufered blisters and plantar fasciitis and ended up buying some hiking sandals. They did the trick and I was able to walk 15 plus miles per day but they did not have enough arch support.

This year I have merrell boots which are really comfy but I would like to buy sandals too. Have just received some Keen Venice H2 but they feel a bit too narrow as my foot seems to squelch out.

Any advice on good arch support and wider fit please?

What width shoe do you usually take?? I'm a medium and my Keen Whispers have a good sized toe box and provide support for my relatively high arch. What part of your foot "squelch out"???

I think I am an e width. Have tried them on again and altered the laces and actually think they may be ok. Going to Spain for relaxing holiday at end of May so will wear them then for waking around. The bit that seems to squelch out is near the arch but now altered seem better. I am a size uk 6 so went for size 6.5 and is just right. Any bigger the length would be too long.

good to hear that you have found a solution -- sounds like my feet aren't as wide as yours

I walk in Chaco Unaweeps. They are perfect for me, no blisters, and they come in wide widths. Not as protective for the toes as the Keen Venice but I think they have better support and are more comfortable. I wear wool socks when my toes get chilled--this year I am going to try waterproof socks for cold rain

One word on the Keen Venice sandals. My wife bought on the Camino (in Santo Domingo) and they get her through. But she gotpebbles in them constantly (a real pain until she realized she could use her trekking pole to sort of pry them open enough for the pebble to fall out--a funny-looking dance, but it worked). I bought Keen Newports in Leon--not one pebble in them to SdC. YMMV, but I think the Venice are really more for water sports (great big gaps where pebbles can get in when walking).
