If one checks into an albergue say at 2:00 in the afternoon, do you leave your pack at your bed when you go our for meal or sightseeing, or if no how do you mark your bed for when you return later? apologies in advance for the dumb questions...

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

After checking into your albergue, you’ll find that almost everyone leaves their pack near their assigned or chosen bed. I always roll out my sleeping bag and stow away rest of my gear except my valuables. Keep your valuable items (i.e., cameras, phones, notebooks, money and documents) with you when away from your gear or the albergue. Even when I go to the shower, I take with me any valuable items that I can’t afford to have disappear. Although theft is infrequent, it does happen.

I agree. Btw, I wore a money belt for credit cards, passport and money. Put it in a plastic bag with handles. Tied the handles together and hung on hook inside shower. Also, I slept with moneybelt inside my liner. Didn't want to take any chances.

Ditto to keep all your valuables on your person/in your sight at all times. I found lockers in most the albergues I stayed in, often labeled with the same number as the bed I was assigned. I never had a bed taken over by anyone else. That did happen to me once at a hostel near San Francisco so I get the concern. I had to find the host to help me find my things that had all been dumped somewhere even though my bed was clearly 'marked' with my things.
