Madrid Parque de El Retiro or centro accommodations?

Hola! I greatly appreciate any suggestions you may have for me! I am looking for someplace to stay in Madrid for a few nights post-Camino, pre-return home via plane. As I will be arriving Madrid via train and leaving via plane, I prefer a place that is not inconvenient to both places ( I expect to take a taxi to the airport) and hopefully near either the Madrid centro or near Parque de el Retiro (or other nice locations that I am unaware of). My budget is under $200/night (inc taxes, etc). I'm sure I will be tired of dorms so looking for private room & private bath. If you have suggestions I'd love to hear them! Gracias fellow pilgrims! Kathy (Kati) Buen Camino!!!!!

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Do a Booking.com search for Barrio de las Letras, convenient to both the park and, more importantly three wonderful museums as well as the nearby Plaza Santa Ana, a great historical plaza with restaurants and mucho character, and a 15-20 minute walk to most everything you'd probably want to see in two days.

I can highly recommend Hostal Delfina on the Calle Gran Via. A very clean establishment, very central location, now about 40E for a single room with private bathroom (ducha no bano). Plus, it's only a 10 minute walk to Fuente de Cibeles, from where you can catch the airport bus back to the airport.

Like many Hostales and Pensiones in Spain, Delfina's is a little like staying in Grandma's house, decor a bit dated and old-worldy, but charming. And I doubt it can be matched for the complete package of location, cleanliness, convenience and COST.

I've also heard good reports about Hostal Gonzalo on Calle de Cervantes, but have no personal experience there. I think they are now in the 60E per night range for a single. They have their own website as well and, like Delfina, hardly ever have to flog their rooms on the big bkng sites.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
I can highly recommend Hostal Delfina on the Gran Vila. A very clean establishment, very central location, now about 38E for a single room with private bathroom (ducha no bano).
I can second this recommendation. I stayed there before my Camino in 2017,

Thank you for asking @MARSKA
I have the exact same question but yet to book my train, not sure how long to stay in Madrid before flying home.

Oxygen Hostel is close to the Atocha station. Private, quiet, clean, near museums,, transit,, stores,, less expensive restaurants. You can take the Cercanias train to the airport or the Express Bus. Both leave from Atocha.

A selection of Camino Jewellery
i have stayed at these places. All very similar, and typical of Madrid hostales:
  • Hostal Bruña
  • Hostal Internacional
  • Hostal Mayor
  • Hostal Gonzalo

There are many Air BNBs there - have always had good luck

Sleep n Atocha, 5 minute walk from Atocha train station. It’s very easy to take the train to and from the airport. Sofia Reina is less than a 5 minute walk, Prado 10 minutes, Retiro Park 10 minutes. Buffet breakfast in rooftop terrace. I paid $109/night in May.

I’ve stayed at Hostal Gonzalo at least 5 times. Excellent location to the train , the Prado and Retiro park. Very simple, very clean and safe. They have a web site.
