Time of past OR future Camino
Portugal Lisbon to porto
We are arriving in SJDP as senior pilgrims 1 of May. This is our first time. Any suggestions? Hoping to meet pilgrims. Are you arriving near that time? Hope to meet you, hawaiinguy

Prepare for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island, Oct 27 to Nov 2
Best advice I can give is to do a bit of research on routes, gear, and weather. There's no doubt you will meet other pilgrims, but it won't as busy as further on in the year.

Buen Camino

This was my first message on this forum. Thank you so much for responding. I have done a lot of research and made a few reservations.
Do you really feel it’s necessary to have reservations daily? As my partner just had double knee replacements we are doing the Valcarlos route.
this has been a dream all my life and I am so excited!

Ideal pocket guides for during and after your Camino. Each weighs just 40g (1.4 oz).
Welcome to the forum and Buen Camino!

If you want to see what other forum members are starting around the same time and add your name to the list of those starting in May click here.

The first two weeks of May are some of the busy for those starting from SJPdP, so I recommend that you book accommodation up through Pamplona. After that there are more intermediate towns and the pilgrim traffic tends to spread out. You can then "wing it" or make reservations a day or two ahead.

I haven't walked the Valcarlos route, but doing so won't avoid significant elevation gain if that is your concern. You will also have to be careful on the descent into Zubiri.

Thanks for the information. i wanted to stay in Valcarlos as it breaks the trail into manageable distances.
I have made reservations though Pamplona.
We have been training through the mountains here in Oregon. I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed but know he can take a taxi if necessary!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
