Mini Camino in October

SaraC

New Member
Hi all,

I'm planning to do a mini-Camino Frances this October (starting at Sarria and working to Santiago). I'd love to do the full one, but that will have to wait until I rack up more vacation hours, so I hope I'll be able to get a taste of the experience during the few days I'll be on the trail.

As an aside, does anybody know what bus service is like between the little towns between Sarria and Santiago? I occasionally suffer from migraines, and there's no way I'll be able to travel if one sneaks up on me while I'm on the Camino. With my limited amount of time, I might have to bus part of the way to make it to Santiago in time to get to my pre-booked hotel there, so I'm hoping someone can clarify how I'd go about finding this information.

I'm getting SO excited for my trip!

Buen Camino, everybody! :D

I'm curious to know how you will get to Sarria to begin your Camino. I've done the Leon to Santiago (Renfe from Madrid to Leon to begin) but have some friends who don't have as much time and want to start in Sarria. If one flies into Madrid, is there a bus, train, or plane to Sarria?

Apparently Sarria has a train station (from what I've pieced together with my website savvy and a lot of Google Translate), and you can catch a train there from Monforte de Lemos. My plan is to take a train from Bilbao to Monforte de Lemos, then catch another train to get to Sarria. It'll be a full day of travel, but cheaper (slightly) than flying in to Santiago, and I figure another day of down time will help with my jet lag.

(This train actually goes to Lugo, so if Sarria doesn't have a stop I can go straight to Lugo and catch a bus back to Sarria).

There's also apparently a cheaper commuter train (or something like that) from Monforte de Lemos, but I can't find it anymore... I'll keep exploring.

Also, I found this: http://www.sarria.es/

EDIT: I just re-read your post, and I didn't realize earlier that your friend is flying to Madrid. I think there's an overnight train from Madrid (TRENHOTEL00751) which actually gets to Sarria early in the morning. http://horarios.renfe.com/HIRRenfeWeb/r ... 2012-01-16

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
