Camino Portuguese
Hi there, I’ll be starting the Camino Portuguese at the end of the week from Lisbon, I figure I’m heading into a “slower” season and wondering if I need to prebook places to stay or it should be fairly open for when I show up?
Or should I call the morning of to secure a spot for the evening?

Many thanks,
Megin

Prepare for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island, Oct 27 to Nov 2
We just finished walking the Camino Portuguese on September 24th from Porto. During the earlier stages, it wasn't difficult to find availability. As we got closer, we found that many places were booked solid, so we ended up booking two days ahead.

Thanks -- helpful info. Any recs between Caldas de Reis and Santiago?
We stayed at O Cruceiro (986 540 165) in Caldas de Reis. In Padron we booked Apartment Salome via Booking.com. It had three bedrooms, a kitchen, sun deck and two bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms had three twin beds in them. If you have multiple people staying there, it's a great buy.

I’m in Lisbon now, and have finished the Portugal Camino coastal route on Thursday. I’m flying out of Lisbon on Tuesday morning, 10-10, and would love to donate my walking poles to anyone who can use them. I can leave them behind at the Lisbon airport in the lost and found! Let me know if you are interested

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
When I did the CP from Porto in April I only found it necessary to book one day ahead starting after Tui, which is where lots of groups start. However if you want to stay at Casa Fernanda in Lugar do Conde you need to book a couple days ahead (although not sure if she’s open still). If you can’t get into Casa Fernanda I recommend Pilgrims Nest/Ninho in Rubaies if you want to experience a nice communal meal.

I walked the CP from Lisbon last year starting at the end of Apr, and used a combination of booking a day ahead or planning a shorter day to arrive somewhere that couldn't be booked earlier in the day. Many places that couldn't be booked were virtually empty, others didn't even look like filling up. This year I took the same approach walking from Valenca, and only booked a day ahead or on the day. Then in May I walked from Ourense using mainly Xunta albergues (they cannot be booked) and a couple of other places. There was never an issue - none of the Xunta albergues were ever even half full.

I walked from Porto last October. I did not book ahead on any part of my Camino and did not have any problem finding a place to stay.
