Hi, my wife and I will be walking the French way in July. We are 40s to 50s and have been thinking about doing this for about six years. We hope to visit Vietnam after the Camino walk, so have to consider the variety of environments we will experience. I'm sure we will learn lots from sites like this. Cheers, Ges.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Welcome, Ges (and wife!),

You will indeed get any and all answers here - we have many members from your neck of the woods! I walked the Francés in July/Aug in both 2007 and 2008. Many members will discuss "overcrowding" but I found that if you adjust your etapas a little bit so that you are not following the guidebooks into the big towns, but rather stay in smaller villages before and after the typical endings of stages, you should have no problems. I may be "on the road again" this summer as well - perhaps we'll meet up - just look for that Forum patch on my rucksack!

Buen Camino,

Hi Ges,
We are a group of Aussie walkers from the small town of Maclean in NSW. We walked the Camino Frances in Sept/Oct in 2007. It was the best experience of our lives! Make sure your pack and contents weigh less than 10kg. You can buy things you may need for your trip to Vietnam in Santiago when you have finished walking. My husband and I went on to Morocco after our walk so we bought new clothes in Santiago. Alternatively, you can post things to Santiago post office and they keep them there for a maximum of, I think, 60 days.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Well, officially this has been changed to 15 days now... there is a trick that you can use to have them store it longer. If you post it to the Santiago post office, and put the same Santiago post office as the return address, they have no were to return it after 15 days. They told me that they would store it longer if this is the case.

Alternatively you could use my new service that should be up and running in a few weeks. I am about to open a "Camino Travel Center" in Santiago were pilgrims can mail things ahead. If you write a mobile number or e-mail address on the parcel, I will send you a message once I receive it (so you know that it has arrived). More details in a few weeks.

Un saludo,
Ivar

Hi Ges,

I attach an extract of a forthcoming talk by Marc sent to me by Harvey Travel New Zealand.

FOR THE ULTIMATE WALK, try the thousand-year-old CAMINO DE SANTIAGO in Spain.

Attached is a PDF with details of the Camino Down Under program. Go to our website http://www.walkingholidays.co.nz , Click on Camino de Santiago and there is a link to Camino Down Under.

In January Marc Grossman is holding 3 in-depth Seminars on the Camino at 3 New Zealand venues. Auckland 17 January. Full details are on the website. See you there!

Marc is an Australian and this New Zealand Seminar is held after Seminars in Sydney and other Australian cities. Hope this will be of interest to you.
