New Passion

skilsaw

After being a Camino addict for 7 years, I have found a new, parallel passion.
Bicycle touring. This summer I have taken four short trips for a total of 1000 kms.

The solitude of biking alone is a lot like the solitude of walking the Camino.
The daily routine of waking, finding first coffee, riding, finding refuge, washing clothes, eating sleeping is very close to the camino routine.

Who knows, I may even take my bike to Spain sometime to bike the Camino.
For now, I will not read the forum every day, but will always have the Camino and perigrinos close to my heart.

Wishing you all a brilliant future,
David, Victoria, Canada

My early posts noted that I had just got a new "very" nice bike. In fact, I have not been on many rides but have plans for the spring to do some distance rides - Niagara to Montreal (a very urban ride) and perhaps crossing Maryland. This is a return to something I have done in the past and I am looking forward to getting my butt and legs road ready.

Shortly after my walk ten years ago, I saw a documentary on a motorcycle rally to a traditional destination - I forget where. What struck me was that the narrative of the bikers were remarkably similar to the way in which pilgrims talk about their journey. There are different paths.

There can be a similar daily cycles to walking as you suggest.

All the best

Only a cycling junkie and or a Camino addict could use the words short for describing self propelled trips of 1000km!! As a fellow cycling junkie...well done! "Normal" (what ever they are) folk would consider those wild and crazy distances!! Enjoy the bike, I find it a perfect adjunct to walking and running! Perhaps a long European Camino by bike is in your future?? Enjoy!
