Time of past OR future Camino
may or september 2024
Hello, i am planning my frist Camino starting at SJPP for early next May. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect weather wise for the first 2 days while climbing the Pyrenees. I would really appreciate any advice, this is really out of my comfort zone. Thank you

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Over the years it's been a toss-up.
Cold and wet.
70 kph winds.
Sunny and beautiful.
Sorry, nobody can predict the weather :)

The weather could be anything, and you really have to wait until the day, to get a better idea. There will likely be several hundred other pilgrims facing the same question and wondering whether to take the Valcarlos route that day. Follow the recommendation of the pilgrim office in SJPP.

You should go prepared with layers for changing temperatures, rain gear, a hat or buff & hood for your head, gloves, and walking poles.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Hello and welcome to the forum!

It's an alpine region where anything can happen weatherwise.
If you are lucky you will have the RN open and fine weather if you are not as lucky you have to cross the Pyrenees via Valcarlos in muddy snow while freezing in -5°C!

It's not predictable and you should be prepared for all sorts of weather!

BTW, it is not a mountainous trek over the Pyrenees. It is a hike that many pilgrims do in less than day, while many chose to break it up into 2 days. It is a fairly steady climb for the first few hours and in total only about 25km and rises to 1400m between SJPdP and Roncevalles. You can do this.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Right, it's not mountaineering! But weather can turn nasty quickly up there, so people should ask at the Pilgrim Office and follow their recommendations.

This time lapse video shows what the trail is like.
