Norte in September

Time of past OR future Camino
Le Puy to sjpdp, next planned Norte.
Does anyone have insight into if Norte will be extra crowded mid September and into October. Mainly concerned if accommodations will be available.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Historically the numbers of Pilgrims halve in September compared with August and there is a further significant drop in October but mostly we can't reliably predict the future more than a couple of seconds out.

This recent post provides the historical data in graph form, see: Thread 'Camino Norte Pilgrim numbers are down on 2019' https://www.caminodesantiago.me/com...norte-pilgrim-numbers-are-down-on-2019.76253/

Perhaps more importantly the number of tourists vacationing on the north coast of Spain drops starting in September. Since the Norte doesn't have as robust a pilgrim structure as the Camino Frances, pilgrims are often competing with tourists for beds during high season.

Obviously, it is hard to predict the future. Looking at the trends through July of this year, it looks like this year is similar to past (non-Covid) years.

I can tell you that I walked the Norte from Irun to Santiago in 2019, starting on September 11 and finishing on October 15. It was a great time of year to walk: generally cool weather, not much rain until the last couple of days, NO crowds, and plenty of available beds in the albergues. A lot of the time, there were only a handful of other pilgrims all day. I highly recommend doing it at that time of the year.
