Pamplona Hiking store

Time of past OR future Camino
Camino Frances, September 2023
Hi
Arrive Pamplona 28 August and need to purchase hiking poles. I'm starting from SJPP on the 30th. Best to buy in Pamplona or SJPP?
Any recommendations from experienced pilgrims? This my first camino.
Gracias y Buen Camino !

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
I second Caminoteca. Excellent store, perfect location, great friendly service and good prices.
I purchased one wooden staff type pole, nicely finished with a carving on the side for just 12 Euros and I still have it weeks later and currently further along the Camino. It has been my first staff type stick and I now like it more than the regular poles.
Also, as well as SJPdP, as mentioned by others, there is a good shop in Zubiri, near the church, too.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Caminoteca for sure. They know what’s going on and give you current information for any stage of the Camino .
The owner also keeps in touch with manufacturers like Altus and can advise you more knowledgeably about gear than almost any other place.

I love both shop owners. Caminoteca will probably be less expensive. (France always seems to cost more).
But either place is good.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Go to Caminoteca. The people are wonderful there and it is always better to support a local business over a corporate chain. Even if it means spending a few more euros.

There is also an el Corte Ingles department store, with a very comprehensive sporting goods department. It is in the direction of the bus station - on that side of the old town. I have shopped there before.

The other, smaller shops mentioned are also very good.

Hope this helps.

Tom

I purchased some Black Diamond Z poles ($139) which fold in thirds and pack neatly within my 40 liter backpack. tapped on electrical caps on the tips and used some duct tape to hold them in place. Cleared thru TSA this week in Atlanta without issue.

I purchased a set in SJPDP. Good for that first day over the Pyrenees.

Hi
I bought mine in SJPDP for around 50 euros and they were great. Two days before Santiago I was contemplating what to do with them while having lunch, since you can't take them on your flight.
When I walked out of the little bar my poles were gone. It felt like losing a friend lol

We bought a 2 euro bag at one of the Asian stores and took our set home this year in checked luggage along with a pocket knife.
