Those were the days. At least like Patrick Leigh Fermor I have a copy of Huxley's Antic Hay to add to my autumn/winter pack. The famous pneumatic cushion which is described by Huxley might also come in handy. Margaret Meredith
 
How very strange I'd just started rereading 'A time of Gift's' (I'd last read it when I was 17 and had a 'notion' of setting off myself) when, because of those feelings 'setting off and shaking off' it evoked, I popped onto the forum where I found this thread....Camino serendipity :)
